Finally, a sunny day that doesn’t have that uneasy feeling of “Not quite spring”! Or the even more uneasy feeling of Summer in March!

The forsythia blooms popped today, and that, to me, is the start of spring: The “opening bloom,” as it were. And about time. These forsythia get morning and afternoon sun. My neighbor’s forsythia get full sun, and they’ve been out two weeks. Goes to show!

Even more thrilling are the new tiny red leaves on the raspberry plants. I don’t really know how to take care of raspberries, and last fall I just hacked the canes back without a lot of discrimination — like, missing the one in this shot! — so I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.
